Privacy Policy
Last updated July 1, 2026
This policy explains what information tryQR (“tryQR,” “we,” “us”) collects when you use our dynamic QR code service, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep data collection deliberately narrow — we’re a QR tool, not an ad network.
01Who we are
tryQR is a service operated by tryQR Labs that lets you create static and dynamic QR codes and, for dynamic codes, view scan analytics. This policy applies to the tryQR website, the code builder, your dashboard, and the scan redirect service.
02Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account we store your name (if you provide one), email address, and a securely hashed version of your password. We never store your password in plain text. If you sign in through a third-party provider, we store the account identifier that provider returns so we can log you in.
Content you create. The QR codes you make and their details — the code name, type (URL, WiFi, vCard, text, or email), the destination or payload, whether the code is dynamic, and its status and appearance settings.
Scan analytics. When someone scans one of your dynamic codes, the scan is routed through our redirect service. For each counted scan we record a timestamp and, when available, the browser/user-agent string, the referring URL, and the country the request came from.
Waitlist. If you join the Pro waitlist we store the email address you submit and which prompt you submitted it from.
03What we don't collect
- We do not store scanners’ IP addresses. We derive an approximate country from the network request, but the raw IP address is not written to our database.
- Static codes are not tracked. A static code encodes its content directly and never routes through our servers, so we have no record of when or where it is scanned.
- We do not run third-party advertising trackers on the scan path, and we do not sell your personal data.
- Automated link-preview crawlers and prefetch requests are detected and excluded from scan counts, not stored as visits.
04How we use information
- To provide the service — authenticate you, save your codes, and redirect scans to your chosen destination.
- To generate the scan analytics shown in your dashboard (totals, trends, and country/device breakdowns).
- To enforce plan limits, prevent abuse, and moderate codes that violate these terms.
- To send essential service messages, and — if you opted into the waitlist — early-access and launch updates.
- To secure and debug the service, including detecting fraudulent or malicious use.
05Why we're allowed to use it
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we process your data to perform our contract with you (running your account and codes), on the basis of our legitimate interests (keeping the service secure and improving it), to comply with legal obligations, and — for optional messages like waitlist updates — with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
06How long we keep it
- Scan eventsare retained on a rolling window (30 days on the Free plan by default) and then aged out; only aggregate counters may persist beyond that.
- Account and code data are kept for as long as your account is active.
- When you delete a code, its scan events are deleted with it. When you delete your account, your codes and their scan events are deleted with it.
09Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can update your account details and delete your codes at any time from your dashboard. To exercise any other right, email support@tryqr.appand we’ll respond within the time required by applicable law.
10Security
Passwords are hashed, access to production data is restricted, and traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information and will notify you of a breach where the law requires it.
11Children
tryQR is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
12Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we make material changes we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use tryQR after a change means you accept the updated policy.
